Alberto Reina starts slowly for Real Oviedo

Alberto Reina was one of Real Oviedo’s standout performers after their step up, but his new-season start hasn’t matched expectations. As MARCA notes, the midfielder has played 315 minutes across four of the first five matchdays, with starts in every game he’s featured.

The issue, for now, is output in the decisive areas. According to MARCA, Reina is yet to score or register an assist, with very little attacking contribution: he has managed just one shot so far in the league.

Solid passing, less depth

His ball numbers look steadier, though they don’t translate into breakthroughs yet. The same report highlights 142 successful passes out of 170 attempts—an 83.5% completion rate—but he hasn’t been able to add the depth that made him so influential last season.

Reina arrives in this moment after a breakthrough campaign where he played 37 matches (with 31 starts), logged 2,480 minutes, and scored four goals after joining from Mirandés. Now, Oviedo expect more from a player who previously carried weight in midfield.

With the season barely underway, there is still plenty of room to turn things around. Reina’s task is to get back to the version that made him stand out and start driving the team’s play in front of goal again.
