Álex Corredera: ‘We’ll show up in the derby and mean business’

Alexandre Corredera, midfielder for Sporting de Gijón, heads into this Sunday’s Asturian derby at Carlos Tartiere with a clear goal: “something historical” after 25 years without winning at Real Oviedo’s ground. In an interview with Radio MARCA Asturias, the Catalan said it is “a huge chance” to show “we mean business”.

The player expects to start again, as he has done in the team’s first six matches of the season. He also admitted he has watched plenty of Oviedo games and believes the rival will grow “during the weeks”, but stressed Sporting’s own responsibility: “If we’re at a good level with and without the ball, we have to hurt them.”

Corredera’s message before kickoff was ambitious: “We’re going to put in soul and heart… and I’m sure we’ll be celebrating at 11 at night.” A special milestone also falls for Guille Rosas, who will reach 200 Sporting appearances at Carlos Tartiere.
