Alexia Putellas targets her third Ballon d’Or with London City

Alexia Putellas, now at London City, believes she can win her third Ballon d’Or, saying so in an interview with AFP where she insists “football speaks for me.” With the ceremony in London a month away, the 32-year-old is embracing her new chapter after 14 years at FC Barcelona and following a fourth Women’s Champions League title.

Putellas describes the move as “a radical change” and a constant learning process, pointing to differences in culture, language and daily life as she adapts to a new country and city. She also stresses her aim is to build something “new and different,” noting how Barca’s youth academy trains children with the same principles as the first team.

Not in the Champions this season

This year, the Champions League won’t feature her as she’s not part of the competition in the current season. She says that was part of the decision from the start, even if it means watching from TV. At the same time, she argues fewer matches could help her arrive in better condition for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, where Spain will defend their title.
