Ancelotti refreshes Brazil: Neymar and Casemiro out

Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil’s head coach and with his deal renewed until 2030, has been clear on the direction of his project: a deep rebuild for the cycle toward the 2030 World Cup. As Mundo Deportivo reports, the Italian wants the Seleção to arrive “better prepared” thanks to a four-year plan, after comparing it to his previous spell, which lasted just over a year following elimination in the US by Norway.

A squad that signals intent

Ancelotti set out his roadmap in the call-up for friendlies against Australia and India. According to Mundo Deportivo, he included only ten of the players who took part in the 2026 World Cup and gave young prospects far more room, with eight debutants among a first group of 26 he started working with in Australia on Monday.

Neymar and Casemiro off the table

On the “doors closing” side, Ancelotti was direct about two key names. On Neymar, the manager said he would hardly be considered and stressed: “Neymar already confirmed that he does not want to return to the national team,” as Mundo Deportivo quotes. He also indicated that he is unlikely to factor in players over 30, which directly affects the forward.

Another experienced midfielder Ancelotti has ruled out is Casemiro. Despite considering him a trusted figure, the coach’s focus is on giving a clear path to younger players, stating that his priority is to give opportunities to youngsters who can be there for the next World Cup.

Four years and youth coordination

Ancelotti also said he will coordinate with the coaching staff of the youth teams, especially the U-23 side aiming for a spot at the 2028 Olympics. In that context, Mundo Deportivo highlights his view that Endrick and Rayan—both with Olympic-age eligibility—will be very important in the new cycle. He added that the time window matters: “We have the motivation and the time needed to prepare a new cycle,” while Brazil will make use of the 16 FIFA windows before the tournament.
