Ángel Haro: Betis accepts ~€15m losses and won’t ‘cash out’ stars

Real Betis will end the season with around €15m in losses, a move they say they chose over selling key players in their Champions League campaign, according to MARCA. The final figure (as of June 30) will be put to a vote at the Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting later this year.

Manu Fajardo and Ángel Haro addressed criticism of their planning. Haro’s message was direct: “We would have liked some more exits, but when players say they won’t go, they won’t go. We should have made a big sale to balance the accounts.” He also underlined that the club needs plusvalías to cover regular squad costs and compete, not “fight between 8th and 15th.”

Haro added that Betis prioritized staying competitive in Europe, so major offers for players such as Abde or Natan arrived too late, once the books were already closed. “A big sale opportunity came for Abde on the last day; the clause wasn’t reached and we decided to keep the squad,” he said.

The club points out that it invested in recent signings: Antony (€22m), Nelson Deossa (€13m), Rodrigo Riquelme (€8m), Valentín Gómez (€5.5m) and Gonzalo Petit (€4.5m). But exits such as Sergi Altimira to Sporting (€18.25m) and Nobel Mendy (close to €8m via Rayo and later a sale to Hull City) weren’t enough.

Champions income as the offset

Betis says returning to the Champions League already helped it grow its wage-limit ceiling, surpassing €142m. With the 2026-27 season in mind, it expects to generate more than €40m from Champions-related revenue through sporting prizes, season tickets and matchday income, plus potential gains from advancing in the knockout rounds.
