Arribas shuts down rumours: “No offer arrived and I’m staying”

Sergio Arribas has broken his silence as an Almería player after the summer transfer talk. Speaking in a press conference, the attacking midfielder made it clear that his situation hasn’t changed: “No offer arrived and that’s why I’m still here,” he said, adding that the clubs flying around in rumours never made a real move.

Rumours vs. promotion focus

As he explained, what he understood was that there were no offers “neither for two, five or 20 million”, and he also admitted he doesn’t know what his valuation was. Arribas added that he spoke with the coach at the start of pre-season, but didn’t discuss his potential departure with Joao Gonçalves or Mohamed El Assy.

Whatever happens in the market, the goal is the same. After last season left them one step short—“we finished just one goal away from reaching LaLiga”—he insists his mind is on the daily work and on the collective target. He also doesn’t want to live thinking about January: “If I were already thinking about it, I’d be shooting myself in the foot,” he said.

Ankle issues under control

Arribas also addressed the physical problem he’s been carrying in his ankle since last season. He said he got injured against Eldense, had to ask to be substituted, and tried to push to make it for Tenerife and Sabadell, but couldn’t. Still, he believes the best call was to rest for another week to be 100%.

He says the situation is now under control and that he works every day to prevent setbacks: “I treat it almost every day and do my exercises so I don’t suffer another injury,” he said. For his numbers, he doesn’t set targets for goals or assists and prefers them to come as a result of team performance.
