Arsenal ends their unbeaten run as Brighton crushes them 3-0

Arsenal lost their unbeaten start in the Premier League after being thrashed by Brighton (3-0) in a match Mundo Deportivo describes as a “very bad” one for the reigning champions. Mikel Arteta, who had opened the season with four straight wins, found no way to match the energy of the home side.

The difference from a week earlier was clear: Mundo Deportivo points out that while David Raya had been involved in saving a penalty last time, this time he conceded three goals. The report adds that he wasn’t directly at fault for any of them, but without him the scoreline could have been even worse.

Brighton took the lead just before the half-hour mark. Pascal Grob struck from the edge of the box, his shot kissed the post and ended up in the net, rewarding the pressure that had grown as Arsenal’s tempo dropped. Mundo Deportivo also notes that Arsenal struggled to find rhythm with the ball and hardly threatened before the break.

No answers after half-time

Arteta didn’t change much at the start of the second half, and Brighton punished him again. Mundo Deportivo says a long-range effort beat Raya once more, this time into the corner.

The third goal came from Brighton’s own medicine: a corner to the far post, the goalkeeper boxed in, and a header finished by Chema, who arrived at Falmer Stadium this summer. Later, Arteta tried to shake things up with substitutions such as Mikel Merino and Zubimendi, but the visitors couldn’t break through, with Verbruggen managing the few chances he faced.

With the 3-0, Brighton can sleep in third place and Arsenal head into the international break in second, with the margin dependent on whether Manchester City win their game, as Mundo Deportivo reports.
