Athletic already spent €35m from the Urrutia–Elizegi war chest

Athletic Club has drawn €35 million from the war chest that started under Urrutia in 2018 and was then increased under Elizegi to 122 million, according to the accounts presented by treasurer Guillermo Ruiz-Longarte. The budget put to the board of “socios compromisarios” stands at €152.5m (down 40m versus the previous season) and includes €17m from the war chest, leaving it at “under €8m” for the following campaign.

The plan details that Uriarte’s current administration inherited 60 million and, in its first season of his second term, will use the fund to cover losses of just over 3 million. Ruiz-Longarte said the club recorded higher amortisation for first-team players and moved forward multi-year costs tied to agreements with the Athletic Foundation.

If the budget is met, spending would rise to €52m, meaning the current board would have used 42% of the war chest total.
