Athletic: Uriarte puts summer exits savings at over €15m

Athletic’s summer has been defined more by departures than arrivals, and president Eduardo Uriarte set the figure at over €15m in budget savings. In a statement at San Mamés, he said the saving comes from a mix of transfers, loan deals and releasing player registrations.

Uriarte pointed to two reasons behind the “intense” exit market: the club had “a very large squad”, largely due to its European run over the previous two seasons, and a regulatory change around loans limited the ability to move players out via that route.

The biggest share, he added, comes from the transfers of Agirrezabala to Racing, Unai Gómez to Udinese and Izeta to Cádiz, though he did not break down the exact amount for each deal. Finally, he also confirmed that the Athletic general assembly will be held on Wednesday, October 28, with the first Copa round expected for Thursday, October 29.
