Ayoub El Kaabi vows to come back stronger after Greece injury

Olympiacos forward Ayoub El Kaabi has posted an update following the serious injury he suffered with the club in Greece on Saturday, a 1-1 draw against Volos FC in the league (matchday three). As RMC Sport reports, the problem happened just before half-time when the Morocco international went for a ball in behind and collided violently with the opposing goalkeeper.

Successful surgery in Athens

After the incident, El Kaabi was treated pitchside for several minutes and taken off on a stretcher. The striker then addressed his situation on social media: “Tout s’est bien passé”, and in an Instagram story written in Arabic and English he thanked the Olympiacos president, coach, players and staff for their support. He also addressed the fans directly and, with a clear message for the road ahead, added: “Je reviendrai plus fort.”

RMC Sport specifies that the diagnosis was a fracture of the tibia and fibula, and that he underwent surgery in Athens. The next step is a lengthy recovery period, with several months out of action.

Club support and messages

Support from inside the club also came through the president Evangelos Marinakis, who said the operation went very well and that the top priority is now El Kaabi’s rehabilitation so he can return even stronger.

Another of his countrymen, Azzedine Ounahi, visited him in hospital and posted: “Qu’Allah te guérisse, mon frère”.

El Kaabi joined Olympiacos in summer 2023 from Al-Sadd. With this injury, the immediate storyline is his rehab timeline and how Olympiacos will manage his absence until he’s medically ready to return.
