Barça asks for a new €510m loan and prepares another Camp Nou exit

FC Barcelona has put another financial push to its members, following last weekend’s general assembly. As reported by RMC Sport, the Blaugrana leadership asked shareholders to validate a €510 million loan to complete works on the new Camp Nou. The club also said €300 million would go directly to construction, with the remainder covering additional costs.

Loan and rising debt

RMC Sport adds that, despite the team’s strong results, the club’s debt trajectory is still a concern. According to the same report, the operation could increase liabilities to as much as €2.6 billion, depending on how payments are spread over time. The outlet also links this to a potential total bill for the stadium—via Espai Barça—of roughly €1.8 billion.

The Athletic, as cited by RMC Sport, also points to comments from president Joan Laporta: the €300 million figure would not cover construction of the Palau Blaugrana, the venue for the club’s other sports sections.

The story notes that Spain does not have a DNCG system like in France, so the club can carry that level of debt if it is confident about repaying its loans in the medium and long term, helped by significant annual revenue.

Another stadium move

Sporting logistics are the immediate consequence. The plan outlined by the club is to finish 2026-27 at Camp Nou, then start the following season—at least through January 2028—in a different venue. RMC Sport says Montjuïc is the main option, and vice-president Ferran Olivé confirmed that the club has a pre-agreement with local authorities.

RMC Sport also includes Olivé’s projection: “When we return to Camp Nou in January 2028, we expect a capacity of 95,000 places,” he said during the assembly. The goal, as the club framed it, is to strengthen financial planning and be ready for the Champions League final on 2 June 2029 in a modern stadium.
