Betis face a surprise renewal task with Bellerín

Betis are preparing for a surprise renewal situation around Héctor Bellerín. As reported by MARCA, the club’s earlier timeline suggested the right-back would be tied up until 2028, but the deal signed was shorter than it was presented, leaving the player in his final contractual season.

That timing changes the direction sporting management had in mind. MARCA notes that alongside other cases—such as Marc Bartra’s deal ending on June 30, 2027 and Diego Conde’s loan running until the end of the season—the Betis now need to focus sooner on Bellerín. The reason is straightforward: his contract is set to end next summer.

A deal that ran differently

Bellerín returned to Betis in the summer of 2023 after spells that included a loan at the club from Arsenal (2021-22), a stint at Barcelona, and then Sporting Portugal. At the time, Betis announced the signing as a five-year commitment through June 30, 2028. But, as ABC de Sevilla had revealed and sources within Betis have confirmed, the agreement in practice was four years, so the renewal clock has already started.

A key starter again

The club’s confidence is tied to performances. MARCA highlights that after an injury setback a couple of years ago, Bellerín has regained his best form and consistency, taking ownership of the right-back spot and also becoming a dressing-room reference and a captain figure. This campaign, with Ruibal injured, he has featured in every official match for Pellegrini’s side: seven league games and one Champions League appearance, six of them as a starter, crossing 600 minutes.

Betis, according to MARCA, would like the relationship to continue beyond next summer, although formal talks with the player’s agent have not started yet.
