Borja Iglesias returns and looks set for a starter spot
MARCA reports that the striker is back from injury and showed encouraging form in the match vs Racing de Santander.
Borja Iglesias is back with Celta. According to MARCA, after an injury-hit start, the forward delivered glimpses of his best self in the clash against Racing de Santander, where he played for just half an hour.
Back after a sole injury
The issue traces back to the summer: the World Cup left him with only three weeks of vacation. He returned to training in the week before the league kicked off, then picked up a problem a few days later—pain in his left soleus. That’s why, up to this Saturday, he barely featured: only 20 minutes at Getafe and 15 in Cyprus versus Omonia Nicosia.
With him missing, Celta also struggled to match the level from last season. MARCA points out that Iglesias has been the club’s top scorer across the last two campaigns, with 11 and 18 goals, and a key part of Claudio Giráldez’s attacking setup.
Half an hour of good signs
This Saturday, he didn’t need to score. In roughly 30 minutes on the pitch, he still showed sharp striker movement—something his team clearly benefited from.
MARCA adds that the extended break, along with the fact that he wasn’t called up by Luis de la Fuente, should help him regain full physical readiness and aim to start as the competition resumes after this spell without matches. For Giráldez, it’s “one of the best news” the club could get right now.
