Carles Pérez joins Girona on a free to boost their attack

Girona have landed a new option for their frontline. As Mundo Deportivo reports, the club has made the signing of Carles Pérez official after he was released from his contract with Celta de Vigo, arriving at Montilivi as a free agent.

The deal comes after a hectic run-in to the transfer window that left Girona with fewer wide options. Mundo Deportivo points out that departures such as Minsu to the Rangers, Tsygankov to Ajax and Ounahi to Panathinaikos have pushed the club to look for alternatives on the flanks. Pérez’s profile fits that need: he brings top-level experience and a skill set designed to operate primarily on the wings.

What Quique Álvarez gets

Now aged 28, Pérez is from Granollers and began his development at Espanyol before moving through Barcelona’s youth system. He broke into the first team at 2018/19 and, a year later, also featured in the Champions League with the Blaugrana.

From Roma to Spain again

His next step arrived in January 2020 when Roma first took him on loan before bringing him in permanently. That spell gave him Serie A experience and European exposure, including being part of the side that won the 2021/22 Conference League. Two years later he returned to Spain with Celta, including loans at Getafe and Aris Thessaloniki, before ending his contract to join Girona.

With this signing, Girona add an experienced offensive piece for Quique Álvarez as they work toward their top priority: securing promotion back to LaLiga.
