Celta routs Racing 5-0 and leaves Malaga as the only winless team

Celta buried their doubts with a heavy win: they beat Racing at Balaídos 5-0 under Claudio Giráldez, and now head into the league break with far better feelings. A rout to settle nerves

According to Sport, the start wasn’t smooth. The loss to Omonia in the Europa League had taken its toll, and Racing controlled possession early, but lacked the cutting edge to hurt the hosts. As the minutes passed, Celta grew into the match. A penalty was awarded for Belocian’s handball—after De Burgos Bengoetxea checked the incident on the monitor—and Hugo González converted to put Celta firmly on track.

Once 1-0 landed, the game opened up. Sport says Celta handled the back-and-forth better, and before half-time Moriba struck to extend the lead. In the second half, José Alberto made changes, but Racing remained too blunt in creating danger, while Celta’s efficiency kept pushing the scoreline higher.

Late goals seal it

With about 20 minutes left, Celta delivered the finishing blow: a spectacular strike from Miguel Román. Shortly after, Pablo Durán added a second goal with a double to complete the rout. Sport highlights that Racing end the day after conceding twelve goals in their last two matches—seven versus Barcelona at Camp Nou and five here at Balaídos.
