Cervera after 5-0: “I’d never seen anything like this”

Álvaro Cervera spoke after CD Tenerife suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of CD Castellón, and was blunt about what it felt like from the first minute. As Sport reports, the Tenerife coach said his side looked “out of sorts from the start” and that the most striking part wasn’t just the scoreline, but the locals’ control throughout.

Better from minute one

In his assessment, Cervera argued the gap is better explained by Castellón’s quality than by Tenerife’s plan. Sport highlights his quote: “Nunca me había pasado una cosa parecida, verme tan desarbolado desde el principio.” He pointed to Castellón winning the key moments—inside passes, dribbles and individual duels—and praised a squad he described as “quick, intense, and with good feet.”

He was also asked about Nacho Gil’s absence. “No tiene nada que ver,” Sport quotes him as saying. He did concede the player’s absence “is important,” but insisted the game had already been shaped before that: “they did what they wanted from the first minute.”

Instead of getting emotional, Cervera focused on recovery. According to Sport, he said that with a result like this there’s no need to “go crazy,” and the priority is making sure the blow doesn’t do lasting damage. His concern is psychological: the defeat could lead his players to think they’re worse than they really are.
