Cervera recalls leaving Castellón: “They didn’t even call”

Álvaro Cervera returns to Castalia this Saturday with Tenerife in tow… and with a grievance that still feels fresh. As Sport reports, the coach who guided CD Castellón to Segunda A in 2005 says the promotion was immediately overshadowed by the club’s sale and the way his spell ended after the ownership change.

Promotion, then bitterness

Cervera ties the “before and after” straight to the shift in management: «Al día siguiente cambió de dueño y nunca más volví». In other words, although the team earned success, he felt the club cut ties right away and didn’t offer any continuation in the dugout despite having restored Castellón to the second tier.

But his complaint goes further. Sport includes his criticism of how he was treated: «No me llamaron ni para darme las gracias». For Cervera, more than two decades later, it’s that lack of recognition—more than the sporting outcome—that still stings.

Tenerife’s trip to Castalia

Sport also notes that the visit brings together several figures with an Albinegros past. The match arrives with Castellón, led by Pablo Hernández, topping the table with 13 points out of 15 after their comeback against Girona.
