Chris Ramos tears his ACL: Oviedo lose their striker

Oviedo forward Chris Ramos has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee after tearing himself in the moment he scored the derby’s opening goal, a 1-0 for his side. Following medical tests, the club confirmed the injury and, as reported by MARCA, he will need surgery and will face a long recovery.

The match looked like a breakthrough: Ramos netted what would become his first goal of the 2026-27 season with his new club. But his night lasted just eight minutes as he collided during a clearance play, hit the Sporting goalkeeper and immediately went down, later carried off on a stretcher.

The setback comes after a rough start to the campaign. In the second matchday, Ramos had already been forced off after a dangerous duel that ended with Raúl Fernández’s sending-off. He then took a blow to his back during a fall and missed games against Albacete, Burgos and Valladolid.

He returned versus Sabadell, coming on at half-time while Oviedo were down 2-0, and started again in the biggest match for the Oviedo fans. In a press conference, Julián Calero summed up the blow: “Arriba estamos justos y esto es un peaje”.
