Córdoba seal late signing: Nelson Monte arrives from Almería

Córdoba wrapped up their final piece of summer business with a late move for Nelson Monte, the Portuguese centre-back currently at Almería. As MARCA reports, the deal lands right at the end of the transfer market to fix a defence that began the league in a tricky spot.

Córdoba’s need is straightforward: they had only three fit centre-backs — Álex Martín, Juan Gutiérrez and Rubén Alves — after a long-term injury and no return date yet for Fomeyem. With that in mind, MARCA says the club moved to complete the squad in a key area, doing so on loan.

From Málaga to Almería, then Córdoba

Monte was trained at Río Ave and also played for Chaves in Portugal. In Spain, he broke through at Málaga, becoming a key player during their promotion campaign from Primera RFEF, and later featured in 2024-25 in Segunda.

His next step was Almería, where last season he logged 2,465 minutes across 28 matches. This term, as MARCA adds, the 31-year-old Portuguese had not been used under García Pimienta, which helped pave the way for a new adventure in Andalusian football — now with Córdoba.
