Cuenca and Casas return on loan to Sporting with promotion ambition

Sporting Gijón have strengthened their campaign with two arrivals from Córdoba: Andrés Cuenca and Antonio Casas. As Sport reports, both sign as loanees after leaving Italian football and landing at Mareo with a clear target: pushing for promotion.

Cuenca is a central defender who already knows the club after his previous stint. Returning was the priority for the summer, and he made no secret of it in his own words: “La vuelta a Gijón ha sido tan ilusionante como la primera… Sabía que si salía cedido del Como mi primera opción siempre era volver a Gijón.” He also stressed how welcoming the environment has felt and how Larcamón’s plan gives him what he needs to perform.

Italy is behind them

Sport notes that the negotiations were complicated by interest from other teams once his loan move was communicated, but Cuenca insists the intention was always to go back. “Yo estaba entrenando… siempre les dije que quería volver a Gijón, donde soy feliz.” He also highlights the confidence he was given and the tactical approach: lots of possession, a high block and proactive football.

Casas wants minutes and goals

Casas arrives from Venezia, where he didn’t get many minutes last season, and now wants to regain momentum in Spanish football. According to Sport, he cites the first conversations with the club and the drive to make the move happen: “Desde la primera llamada… automáticamente llamé a mi agente… hasta conseguir llegar aquí.”

He also comments on the role he expects to have under Larcamón, pointing to flexibility in both phases while aiming to be a real attacking threat. “Tengo muchísimas ganas de ponerme esta camiseta y debutar… lo importante es que se cumpla ese objetivo.”

Together, the two loan deals fit the club’s message that promotion is the must-do goal, with the squad and sporting staff aligned on raising the level all season, as Sport underlines.
