Edu Espiau is a doubt for Zaragoza clash: “we’re weighing the risk”
Edu Espiau missed training for two straight days with a calf problem, and his availability for Sunday’s trip is still being assessed.
Striker Edu Espiau is a doubt for this Sunday’s match for Real Zaragoza at Juventud de Torremolinos. As reported by Sport, the forward has been dealing with calf discomfort and did not train this Friday, making it his second consecutive day without working.
Calf issue to monitor
In a press conference after the session, coach Ibai Gómez said he still hasn’t decided whether to take the chance of playing the risk and protecting the area. “Espiau has a slight discomfort and we’re assessing whether to take the risk. It’s a calf issue that’s often tricky. We’re weighing whether to wait 2 or 3 days. We don’t have a decision yet,” Sport quotes him as saying.
Decision needed before kick-off
According to the same source, Espiau had also missed training on Thursday due to workload management, but on Friday he was the only absentee for physical reasons. That means Ibai Gómez will have to shape his XI for the trip.
Sport adds that the coach also warned he will make changes compared to the starting lineup used for the Zaragoza win over Antequera at the Ibercaja Estadio. Espiau had been the matchwinner in that game, scoring the goal that sealed the victory, and now the staff are deciding whether to manage the problem for a couple of days or push for Sunday.
