OL’s sporting director, Matthieu Louis-Jean, has admitted to RMC Sport that the club made an initial approach about Karim Benzema. The only detail he’s willing to confirm: there was “contact with an intermediary”.

An approach that stalled

Crucially, Louis-Jean immediately sets the ceiling on it: according to his words, “it didn’t go further than that”. In other words, it didn’t progress into a deeper negotiation or any follow-up steps.

With this statement, Lyon leaves the door ajar on the idea that they at least explored the possibility of a move, but the public trail ends at that early conversation. RMC Sport’s account doesn’t mention any dates, formal offers, or contract discussions.

So for now, the BenZema talk remains at the “contact” stage—no agreement to celebrate, no next step confirmed. The situation will depend on whether the club tries again or lets the matter fade.
