Ethan Mbappé banned for 3 matches for elbow on Natan in the Champions League
UEFA hands the Lille striker a three-game ban: he misses Arsenal, Galatasaray and Bodo/Glimt if his appeal fails.
Ethan Mbappé, of Lille, has received the sanction for the direct red card he was shown after an elbow on Natan during the first matchday of the Champions League league phase on September 8 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy (2-3) against Real Betis.
In the 56th minute, right after Troy Parrott made it 2-3, Natan came up from behind near the centre circle to talk to Mbappé, and he answered with an elbow to the face. The VAR alerted referee Georgi Kabakov, who hadn’t seen the incident, and the Bulgarian issued the straight red.
UEFA announced the penalty and, if his appeal is unsuccessful, Mbappé will miss:
- Arsenal in London (October 13)
- Galatasaray at home (October 21)
- Bodo/Glimt in Norway (November 3)
