Ferran Torres on how Ilia Topuria changed his mindset

The turning point, according to his account in Jordi Wild’s ‘The Wild Project’, came during a vacation in the United States. There he met Ilia Topuria, and Torres believes that Topuria’s trusted circle made him feel he was the best. “His inner circle made him believe he was the best. I came back as a different person,” Sport quotes him as saying.

“I want to be like you”

Torres also said he managed to have a long conversation with Topuria and see the mindset for himself. Sport records that the forward described how, after that talk, his own inner dialogue crystallised around wanting to match that level of mentality: “I want to be the best Ferran… I want to be indestructible.” He even admitted that the idea that stayed with him was simple: “Wow, I want to be like you.”

With those changes in approach, Torres said Topuria helped in “the process of changing it”. And for now, Sport notes his numbers with Luis Enrique’s side—7 goals in 6 matches—suggest the new attitude is landing at the right time.
