Gakpo injury scare as Greece stun Germany and Netherlands beat Serbia

Cody Gakpo (Liverpool) is a doubt after being taken off in the 17th minute. The Netherlands winger will undergo a scan on Monday, with Xavi Hernández saying it’s “his ankle” and that “tomorrow we will know”, hoping it’s not too serious.

In Group A2, Dimitrios Kourbelis fired Greece to a 1-0 win over Germany in Augsburg in the 74th minute, moving them top with six points from two matches. It was Greece’s first victory in 11 meetings against Germany, and it spoiled Jürgen Klopp’s home debut. After the game, Klopp told ARD: “Personally, I’m completely unbothered by it” and insisted a loss is “just a piece of information”.

Meerdink delivers for the Netherlands

Netherlands also won 2-1 in Serbia, with Mexx Meerdink scoring twice: a penalty in the 30th minute and the winner in the 69th minute on his second appearance for his country. It was the first win for Xavi Hernández as coach, following Thursday’s draw with Germany.

Portugal edge Norway in Oslo

Portugal finished top of Group A4 after a 2-1 win over Norway in Oslo. João Félix scored again, Erling Haaland equalised in the 54th minute, and Gonçalo Ramos struck three minutes later to seal the win. Jorge Jesus left Bruno Fernandes out after explaining the Manchester United captain had “played through the pain” in Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Wales.
