Girona look to bounce back after Castellón defeat at Cádiz
Quique Álvarez’s side travel to Cádiz with seven points from five games, several attacking absences and Portu returning to the squad.
Girona travel to Cádiz determined to make their loss to Castellón only a stumble in their progress. As Mundo Deportivo reports, the blanquivermells arrive on the back of six points from their last nine and sitting on seven points after five matchdays, with the aim of regaining the away performances that helped them beat Sporting at El Molinón.
Aim: recover the rhythm
The hosts are under pressure. Cádiz are in the relegation zone with three points and still without a win, having recorded three draws and two defeats. Mundo Deportivo also notes that Albert Celades acknowledged the difficulty in creating chances, while expecting “brave and determined” performances against a Girona side he praised for having “a lot of level”.
For Girona, the message from Quique Álvarez is clear: the table must not turn into a trap, and winning away from Montilivi requires an extra level in LaLiga/Segunda. Cádiz, meanwhile, will be looking to open their win tally in front of their fans.
Attack hit, Portu returns
Girona’s biggest headache is in attack. Bryan Gil remains out with a muscular injury in the hamstring, while Jastin is still recovering from a quadriceps rupture. The situation worsens with Mateu Jaume added at the last minute due to discomfort after training, and Abel Ruiz will serve a ban following his red card versus Castellón. Unai Hernández is also not yet available.
The key positive is Portu: after months of recovery and several weeks working progressively with the group, the winger is back in the matchday squad. With that boost, Girona want to respond after a setback and stop Cádiz from finding their first win—especially after a recent trip in which Girona previously came out on top.
