Girona suffer but beat Cádiz 1-2 at Nuevo Mirandilla

Girona went to the Nuevo Mirandilla looking to make the most of their chances, and came away doing that—mostly—by “surviving” in a difficult first half and then resisting through the pressure of a Cádiz side that kept coming. As Mundo Deportivo explains, the visitors punished the moments they found before the break and then managed to weather almost everything that followed.

Wind and away advantage

There was no clear dominant team before halftime, and the wind made control difficult while spreading the rhythm of the game. Cádiz warned early with a chance from Álvaro against Gazzaniga. But the real difference came in front of goal: Vanat finally found the reward he’d been pursuing, scoring in the 35th minute after an assist by Álex Moreno, marking his first league goal. Just before the break, Carles Pérez deepened the wound again, also with Álex Moreno’s help—leaving the match at 0-2 and provoking whistles at Nuevo Mirandilla.

Own goal and late resistance

After the break, the script changed fast. Miscommunication sent Arribas into space; the play ended with David López putting the ball into his own net while trying to clear. The 1-2 completely shifted the atmosphere. From then on, Girona practically stopped attacking, while Cádiz took over possession, pressed hard, and forced Girona to defend every inch.

Mundo Deportivo points to the mix of collective grit and key saves: Junior continued to look solid, Álex Moreno held his side, and Gazzaniga stepped in when needed. Pyshchur had a chance in stoppage time to finish it off but couldn’t. The closing minutes stretched to five added minutes, and there was even a brief altercation between Lass and Borja Vázquez.

With the final whistle, Girona recorded their third win of the season and bounced back after losing to Castellón. Cádiz, meanwhile, remain winless.
