Golovin stays at Monaco despite Spartak Moscow approach

Alexandre Golovin will stay at AS Monaco despite a final attempt from Russia, according to L’Équipe. The 30-year-old attacker was one of the hottest deals of Monaco’s summer window and, since arriving in the summer of 2018, was also the longest-serving player in the squad.

Finances drive the talks

The context was Monaco’s need to meet DNCG requirements. With the club under pressure to balance the books, the leadership opened the door to a potential departure in the closing days of the window.

Discussions took place with Zenit Saint Petersburg, but the most advanced talks were reportedly with Spartak Moscow.

Spartak’s offer rejected

As the piece explains, the Russian outlet “Championat” mentioned an offer from Moscow worth the equivalent of €19m. However, that bid didn’t lead to a move. Unless something extremely unexpected happens before the Russian transfer window closes on Thursday night, Golovin will continue the season with ASM.
