Gordon shares details: close with Joan García, surprised by Bernal

Anthony Gordon is enjoying a strong start at Barcelona. The English forward—described by Mundo Deportivo as Deco’s first signing of the season in a “lightning-fast” deal—has already felt the noise of the Spotify Camp Nou and, although his impact goes beyond goals, he says he still has one thing to tick off: scoring his first goal.

Settling in at Barça

So far this campaign, Gordon has delivered four assists and appeared in seven matches, sitting out once against Racing. In the competition for spots with Karim Adeyemi, he has started five games and come off the bench in two, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Who stood out around him

Speaking to Barça’s media, Gordon put names to the connections forming in the dressing room. He said the player he’s built the best relationship with is Joan García, while the teammate who has surprised him most day to day is Marc Bernal. He also referenced his path: while he debuted in top-flight football with Everton, he previously developed through Liverpool’s youth system.

He added that his football idol is Steven Gerrard. Off the pitch, the midfielder-like routines (for him, at least) were a talking point too: Gordon’s pre-match ritual is eating pancakes, and he named New York as his favourite place to go on holiday. He said Barcelona’s like “everything.”

Mundo Deportivo also reports that he’s learning guitar, taking classes in both Catalan and Spanish, reads “Relentless” as his favourite book, and keeps a journal to write down his thoughts. For the international break, Gordon is called up by England, with matches against Spain, Croatia and Czechia twice each. Gordon’s stated aim for the season is “to win everything,” and this stretch has also included him contributing to Lejeune’s own goal.
