Guilherme and Iker Álvarez: Córdoba’s goalkeeping debate

CD Córdoba are stuck in a goalkeeping debate between Guilherme Fernandes and Iker Álvarez. After Iván Ania’s hints that the fight for the No. 1 spot isn’t over, four more matches with Guilherme have produced a nearly identical outcome: nine goals conceded, compared to the seven the andorran keeper had received previously.

As Sport reports, the defensive picture is worrying. Córdoba have let in 16 goals in seven matches (2.28 per game) and also sit at the top of the category for expected-goals conceded, with 13.9 predicted versus 16 actually scored. Guilherme has conceded those nine from 49 shots received, 22 on target (40.91% opponent accuracy), while Iker Álvarez faced 40 shots to earn a spot in the XI: 13 on target with a 53.85% conversion.

Guilherme, for Tenerife

For the next outing, Guilherme is set to start, while Iker Álvarez remains under scrutiny given his numbers and the errors highlighted in matches against Valladolid and in the earlier defeat. The team plays at El Arcángel on Monday October 5 (20:30) against Tenerife, and the andorran is also expected to be unavailable due to international duty.
