Huijsen and Roberto Fernández among De la Fuente’s new call-ups
Luis de la Fuente released his first squad after the World Cup win, adding Dean Huijsen and Roberto Fernández for Nations League qualifiers vs England, Croatia and Czechia.
Luis de la Fuente has named his first squad as World champions, after winning the World Cup last summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The Haro coach keeps most of the group that lifted the trophy and has added two fresh faces for Spain’s Nations League qualifying matches in the coming weeks, as reported by Sport.
The new additions are found in both defense and attack. Dean Huijsen is included among the defenders, and Roberto Fernández makes the cut in the forward line.
Nations League opponents and dates
Spain will face England in London on September 26; Croatia in Seville on September 29; the Czech Republic on October 3; and they will meet again against the side led once more by Luka Modrić on October 6 in Split.
- Defenders: Aymeric Laporte, Pau Cubarsí, Marc Pubill, Dean Huijsen, Eric García, Marc Cucurella, Alejandro Grimaldo
- Midfielders: Mikel Merino, Fabián Ruiz, Fermín, Álex Baena, Rodrigo Hernández, Martín Zubimendi and Pedri
- Forwards: Yeremy Pino, Dani Olmo, Nico Williams, Lamine Yamal, Víctor Muñoz, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres and Roberto Fernández
The call-up list is a checkpoint for the squad’s form after the World Cup and, in particular, a chance to see how these two newcomers fit into the coach’s plan for an increasingly important Nations League run.
