John Terry slams Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea: “Inacceptable”

Rather than focusing only on results, Terry argued that the defensive structure is part of the problem: "I’m a bit old school. I like man-to-man marking. I don’t like this zonal marking or the high line marking". He believes opponents have been able to exploit gaps: "I think Brentford came out in the second half and realised we were exposed at the far post".

His conclusion is about individual accountability: "No one knows who they’re marking once the ball goes over the first-poster players". And he believes the fix starts with responsibility: "I know almost all teams practise zonal marking, but the players don’t take any responsibility. In my view, they have to".
