Julen Lobete undergoes surgery and faces an extended layoff

Málaga CF has, via MARCA, confirmed that Julen Lobete has already been through the operating room after suffering an injury to his left knee.

According to MARCA, the winger from Lezo was successfully operated on at Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga for damage involving the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament in his left knee. From here, he begins a long recovery process, with a layoff period still to be determined, depending on how he progresses.

As MARCA explains, the club planned to wait until this stage to decide whether it would request a replacement for the player’s registration. Lobete is tied to Málaga until June 2027, so the decision will hinge on the medical paperwork and the competition’s internal procedures.

Málaga awaits LaLiga’s medical report

With the operation already done, Málaga can now send LaLiga all the required medical documentation to start the process. Once LaLiga’s medical commission issues a favorable report, the club will have 20 natural days to request the registration of a substitute for Lobete.

In the meantime, the attacker is set to miss the remainder of the campaign, pending the final timeline for his recovery, as outlined by MARCA.
