Kehrer joins Ajax on loan until end of season

AS Monaco confirmed on Wednesday the loan of Thilo Kehrer to Ajax until the end of the season. The 29-year-old German defender will join Míchel’s side, where Marc-André ter Stegen is already on loan from Barcelona.

The move comes after Monaco’s attempt to sign forward Folarin Balogun from Everton failed, as noted by Mundo Deportivo. By taking Kehrer on loan, the club also looks to manage its wage bill: the defender earns €290,000 gross per month and remains under contract with Monaco until 2028.

Third German this summer

Kehrer will be the third German player to arrive at Ajax this summer, after ter Stegen and midfielder Julián Brandt. He will also reunite with Brazilian full-back Caio Henrique, with whom he played at Monaco.

Career up to Monaco

Kehrer broke through at Schalke, moved to the PSG in 2018 and stayed until 2022. He then spent two seasons with West Ham before joining Monaco. A Germany international with 28 caps, his PSG spell includes three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France trophies, one Coupe de la Ligue, and three French Supercups, plus a European runner-up finish in 2019-20, according to Mundo Deportivo.
