Konrad de la Fuente worries: cartilage edema in knee, out for derby

Sporting fears for Konrad: edema in a previously operated knee could keep him out for several matches, Sport reports.

There’s concern over the condition of Konrad de la Fuente at Sporting de Gijón. The winger has been unable to train for almost a week and is awaiting further medical tests to determine how serious his problem is, according to Sport.

Edema in a previously operated knee

Sport reports that Konrad is suffering from edema in the cartilage of a knee that has already been operated on. The club had explained his absence from the squad for the trip to Andorra as “discomfort”, and he was ruled out for that match as well. Now, the same issue has him out for the next Asturian derby at the Carlos Tartiere.

The situation is complicated by the fact that the affected joint has been surgically treated before, which is why Sporting is taking extra precautions. Konrad has already been reviewed several times by the medical staff, and the club is monitoring his progress closely before setting a return timetable.

No recovery deadline has been set yet: further tests are expected to be decisive in assessing the scope of the edema and how the knee responds over the coming days.

Confirmed absence and good news

Sport confirms Konrad’s absence for Sunday’s derby, and suggests his layoff could stretch for “several more matchdays.”

On a more positive note, the latest tests found no injury for Bruno Rubio (19), although he’s expected to miss the derby as a precaution. Meanwhile, Gaspar Campos still has options to make it to the Carlos Tartiere, Sport adds.
