Amadou deal between Sporting and Académica: buy option and buyback

Sporting de Gijón is still closely watching Amadou Coundoul even after the Senegalese forward moved to Portugal this summer. As Sport reports, the loan agreement with Académica de Coimbra includes a purchase option, but the Asturian club keeps a clear route to bring him back if Coimbra decides to trigger it.

The buy option in Portugal

Under the deal, Académica can acquire his rights for €800,000. The contract sets the payment in two installments of €400,000 each, meaning the buyout wouldn’t be paid in one go.

Sporting’s “ace”: the buyback

This is where the clause that matters in Mareo comes in. If Académica activates the purchase, Sporting can later recover Coundoul by paying €1.2 million, maintaining influence over the player’s future. Sport also notes that Gijón had already made a firm commitment to him by promoting him and renewing his contract until 2029.

Deadline and current fitness

So far, his start in Coimbra has been encouraging: Coundoul has 1 goal and has scored in the two matches where he received minutes. His progress, though, was interrupted by a micro-tear that kept him out for weeks. Sport adds that he has already recovered and is available again. From here, his performance in the coming months will shape Académica’s decision, since the club has until June 30 to decide whether to execute the €800,000 option.
