Leonardo Balerdi thanks Marseille fans in Instagram farewell

Leonardo Balerdi is already starting a new chapter away from Marseille, but before moving on he left a final note for Olympique de Marseille’s supporters. In a long Instagram message, the Argentinian—who joined AS Roma on loan with a purchase option this season—said his departure came with a hard-to-explain feeling and that it “wasn’t easy” for him to write.

A farewell full of gratitude

As L’Équipe points out, Balerdi looks back on his journey and turns it into a direct thank-you. He explains that over time he became a key part of the group and highlights that he earned the captain’s armband during his spell at the club. He also references his 200 matches wearing the OM shirt, presenting it as a source of pride.

He also speaks about the city and its supporters. “Marseille is a unique place,” he writes, describing how it can lift you up “to touch the sky” at times—and, at others, make you feel the opposite. Either way, he insists that the ups and downs are exactly what make the place so special, and he praises a crowd he calls “unlike any other.”

Loan, option and what’s next

On the deal itself, the structure is clear: a one-season loan for AS Roma with an €13 million purchase option, giving the Giallorossi the possibility of keeping him. Balerdi says he leaves “at peace,” convinced he gave everything to the club he “loves.”

L’Équipe adds that despite his departure, there’s still no signing on the horizon for Marseille right now.
