Luis Blanco named new Europa coach after Gené exit

Europa have confirmed a change on the touchline after a tough start: with just one point from their first four matchdays, the club have moved on from Josep Maria Gené. In a statement reported by Mundo Deportivo, the decision is framed as a response to a “loss of confidence” inside the club.

A move aimed at recovery

The announcement adds that, even though the season is still early, “the right moment” has arrived to act “with responsibility and in time”, based on the belief that the situation is “fully reversible”. Gené had also already stepped away from the club’s sporting director role at the start of September, with Marc Fabra taking over that position.

Blanco takes charge

Luis Blanco will now be tasked with trying to turn things around. According to Mundo Deportivo, he arrives after last season’s spell at Atlético Baleares, and brings experience from a long stint at Espanyol, where he coached the B team and worked as assistant/second-in-command at the first team.

Blanco also has prior links with Europa: he played for the club in 2001-2002, in Tercera División, finishing as that side’s top scorer. Joining him in the staff is former Europa player Alberto González, who will work as assistant coach.

For now, the new boss’s first step is already set: Mundo Deportivo reports that Blanco will run his first training session with the squad this Tuesday at 4pm at Can Dragó.
