Málaga bottom as the break starts: Valencia a point behind

Real break times arrive with the Malaga CF rooted at the bottom of LaLiga. After seven matchdays, they’re the only side that still haven’t picked up a win, leaving them entrenched in the relegation fight.

Valencia in the same bind

Valencia CF, meanwhile, are one point better off and sit in the penultimate position. Their situation worsened on the back of a home defeat to Real Sociedad, finishing 2-3, and it was their fifth loss of the campaign.

The fight to survive is also tight around the other teams nearby: Elche are in the drop zone with five points, having recorded one win and two draws. They are currently tied with Levante on the same number of points, although Levante’s position benefits from having played one game less.

Juanfran Funes has stressed that the standings don’t yet tell the full story, given how much competition remains. As he pointed out, Malaga—similar to what happened in the Getafe game—have managed to give strong opposition to two other rivals, with the only standout negative being their performance against Real Madrid and Villarreal.

So the international break starts with Malaga and Valencia separated by just a single point, and with the pressure rising for both clubs as the table gets more unforgiving.
