Marc Pubill and Álex Baena, from Atlético de Madrid, started as Spain beat Croatia 3-1 at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in Sevilla in the Nations League group stage.
Pubill was pivotal: he helped set up the early breakthrough when he opened play for Lamine, then after Croatia drew level around the half-hour, the Atlético man scored his first goal for Spain’s senior team. Lamine provided the cross and Pubill headed it in to restore the lead.
Scoring with La Roja
Spain added the third shortly after, and Pubill kept pushing forward—he let Pedri’s pass roll through to Lamine to avoid an offside position, paving the way for the Barcelona attacker to beat Livaković.
Grimaldo, monitored
Alejandro Grimaldo did not play and, as Marca reported, he stepped away from the substitutes’ warm-up while sporting a protective wrap on his right thigh. Atlético’s other internationals also appeared: David Hancko for Slovakia and Jan Oblak for Slovenia, with Oblak keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over North Macedonia.
