Mbappé set for a spell out: 15 days with left-knee injury

Kylian Mbappé was hurt with France and will miss about 15 days; his return is targeted for Oct 10 vs Villarreal in LaLiga.

Kylian Mbappé, of Real Madrid, has gone into the treatment room after picking up an injury to his left knee with France against Turkey in a Nations League match on Friday. Following tests on Saturday at Valdebebas, the club diagnosed hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee, keeping him sidelined around 15 days.

The plan at Real Madrid is to have him ready for the return of LaLiga, when they host Villarreal at the Bernabéu on October 10. Mbappé is already back in Madrid to recover and joins the current injury list under Mourinho, alongside Militao, Rodrygo, Mendy, Fede Valverde and Konaté.

International break hits again

The French defender is also dealing with a similar issue and the same layoff timeline. While the Clasico on October 25 is on the horizon, the immediate worry is the international break: the club has sent out 15 players for multiple matches packed into a ten-day window. Vinícius and Endrick, for example, are on Brazil’s tour of Australia and India, and Brahim is travelling with Morocco to play Lesotho.

José Mourinho had previously flagged the medical department as a key area to fix after bringing in Sandro Carriço, responsible for Sports Sciences focused on preventing injuries. As Mundo Deportivo reports, last season Real Madrid suffered 54 incidents related to these load issues, with Militao, Rodrygo and Mendy among the most serious cases—and this break has reopened that concern.
