Mikel Oyarzabal opens the 2026-27 scoring: Spain strike in Wembley

Mikel Oyarzabal, of Real Sociedad, got his 2026-27 scoring underway at Wembley: he scored as Spain beat 2-3 England in the Nations League. The Eibar-born forward came on as a substitute for Ferrán Torres and, in 35 minutes in the second half, delivered the decisive moment with the 21 on his back.

The goal came after he received in the box, controlled well, and chipped it over Trafford in the kind of finish that tells you he’s still on another level. According to Mundo Deportivo, his numbers for Spain are still climbing: 18 goals in the last 20 matches for his national team, with six assists, one penalty won and three shots hitting the woodwork. He’s also four goals away from David Silva’s 35, currently fifth in the Spain all-time ranking.

Back at club level, it was his first goal of the season after eight matches without scoring (seven as a starter). His previous Real Sociedad strike was on May 9 versus Betis, while the one before that came on July 14 at the World Cup semifinal against France.
