Mohamadou Kanté lights up for West Ham: goals and assists early on

Mohamadou Kanté, the French midfielder at West Ham, scored on matchday eight of the Championship in the Millwall derby: with a long-range effort after a pass coming back, he helped swing the game to make it 1-2 when West Ham were down by two.

As RMC Sport notes, president David Sullivan had identified his potential back in 2024 when Kanté was still with Paris FC, and the first signs are now backed by results: 3 goals so far this season plus one assist, with the midfielder already among his team’s top scorers.

The piece adds that, in official Championship stats, Kanté is also near the top for distance covered per 90 minutes and has the most goals scored as a substitute. This summer, Fiorentina and another French side reportedly showed interest, but West Ham chose to keep him to build on last season’s output: 5 goals and 3 assists. At 21, he’s also in Senegal’s frame and has drawn attention from France Under-23.
