Monzón returns for Real Zaragoza after head knock
Diego Monzón completed the recovery protocol after a head wound and has trained with the first team; he should be available next weekend.
Diego Monzón, a Real Zaragoza academy midfielder who caught attention in pre-season with the first team, is back available after completing the recovery protocol following a head knock.
Knock, break and recovery
Sport reports that Monzón was ruled out last matchday because of a cut caused by a clash with an opponent during Tercera RFEF’s opening game against Deportivo Aragón in Tamarite. The outlet adds that, as happened with Diego González in pre-season, the youngster also needed rest for a few days and missed the following round too—when the reserve team played La Almunia while the first team were away in Torremolinos.
From there, Sport says Monzón trained with the first team on Monday and is expected to be available again next weekend.
Why Ibai will care
This matters given the squad’s physical issues. Ibai may turn to Monzón depending on how Ander is progressing: on Sunday, Ander withdrew ten minutes after the restart with a possible mild muscle tear, though medical tests still need to confirm the diagnosis.
Sport also highlights that it’s not yet guaranteed that all the players who finished Torremolinos games feeling something will be assessed immediately. The plan, according to the report, is to wait until the return to training on Wednesday to evaluate how Ander, Iranzo, Diego and Delgado are feeling. The general mood is optimistic and the aim is to avoid anything beyond a muscle overload.
As context, Sport recalls Ibai’s pre-season comments about Monzón: “Monzón has a very high level… it’s a shame because there’s a lot of good competition in his position… but Monzón is going to be a first-team player at Zaragoza for sure.”
In short: Monzón is back on track and could become a key option if the injuries keep affecting the midfield.
