Murillo settles the score: explains split with De Zerbi ahead of OM-Beşiktaş

Amir Murillo spoke to the media this Wednesday with OM’s Europa League tie against Beşiktaş coming up, looking back on his spell at Marseille and especially the situation with coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Murillo’s blunt take

The Panama left-back, now at Beşiktaş after joining in February from OM, described his departure as a personal issue with the manager. “J’ai senti comme un manque de respect”, Murillo said, insisting it was “only something personal” from the coach and that, in his view, he was “pratiquement obligé à partir du club.”

He also pointed to the obviousness of what happened: “Tout le monde a vu” he had had a problem with De Zerbi. Murillo added that it had nothing to do with the club or the team, framing the whole episode as a decision-making clash rather than a wider team problem.

OM and the match setup

According to RMC Sport, Murillo moved to Beşiktaş for €6m in February. He spent two and a half years at the Stade Vélodrome (from 2023 to February 2026) and played 82 matches for OM.

RMC Sport also notes that OM’s build-up is tough in Ligue 1: after beating Strasbourg 4-0 on matchday one, the team then suffered defeats to Monaco, Paris FC and Rennes, arriving in Europe needing a stronger tone.
