Navarro boosts Sevilla’s squad depth in LaLiga

Sevilla are leaning into a clear idea this season: the bench needs to matter. According to MARCA, the work of the sporting department led by José Ignacio Navarro is giving Luis García Plaza more in-game alternatives, building a squad with more “variants” than last campaign.

More minutes, more options

After the first seven LaLiga matchdays, the newspaper highlights a core group that looks untouchable for now. That list includes Odysseas Vlachodimos, Juan Iglesias, Gabriel Suazo and Lucien Agoume, who have played every available minute. On top of them, three more players have also featured in all league games: Miguel Sierra, Jon Guridi and Robbie Ure.

Beyond that first group, Sevilla have expanded their rotation. MARCA notes that up to 14 squad members have already passed the 200-minute mark in LaLiga. The paper also adds Andrés Castrín, Kike Salas, Arouna Sangante, Youssouf Fofana, Félix Correia, Isaac Romero and Chidera Ejuke to that threshold.

A bench that adds points

The internal competition shows in output. Sevilla have scored ten goals spread across nine different scorers, with Sierra the only one to repeat. More importantly, MARCA underlines the impact of substitutes: over these seven rounds, the players coming on from the bench have delivered four goals (Peque, Isaac, Ejuke and Stassin) and three assists (Isaac, Ure and Kochorashvili), which adds up to seven extra points.

It’s true that in the last two matches, those changes didn’t have the desired effect, as MARCA says. Still, having a wider range of profiles allows García Plaza to tweak the game plan, adjust the pressing depending on the opponent, and keep intensity across the full 90 minutes. With that depth, Sevilla are currently fifth in the table.
