Nice explores Alidu Seidu as cover for Antoine Mendy

OGC Nice wants to move quickly after the serious injury to Antoine Mendy’s left knee (reported as happening last Sunday). According to L’Équipe, the club will only start talks with Stade Rennais once Ineos, the owner, gives the go-ahead.

After a short shortlist, Nice’s leadership has identified Alidu Seidu as the main option, as Ouest-France has just reported. The 26-year-old Ghana international matches the criteria: 106 Ligue 1 appearances, comfort in a back three, and even the ability to step in as a right back. The article also says he is no longer part of Rennes’ plans.

Talks depend on approval

L’Équipe adds that the sports department is waiting for Ineos’ budget validation before approaching Rennes. The French side are said to be receptive to the deal.

The proposed structure would be a loan with an option to buy, since Seidu is under contract in Brittany until June 2029.

The fitness question

The potential move could also help off the pitch: the piece notes Seidu is among the leaders in the Rennes dressing room.
