Nicolás Larcamón: “We won’t cede control” for Sporting derby vs Oviedo

Nicolás Larcamón, head coach of Real Sporting de Gijón, is set for his first Asturian derby against Real Oviedo this Sunday at 21:00 at the Carlos Tartiere, insisting the plan is to “dispute control” and “not cede initiative,” as he said in his press conference.

Ahead of kick-off, Larcamón confirmed two absences: Guillamón and Ferrari. He also said Gaspar returns and should be available in the squad. Konrad is carrying a knee issue, with medical tests under way, so his participation will be decided late. Bruno, meanwhile, picked up a knock against Andorra and couldn’t finish the match in good shape; whether he starts as a substitute will depend on last-minute checks.

Larcamón described the derby as one of the most passionate in Spain and highlighted the “very special” week for the city, supporters and players. He added that Oviedo—having just been relegated and with a more heavily reinforced squad—must not be allowed to “get going,” while Sporting’s focus remains on imposing their own game and being “very efficient” through both the emotional and the tactical side.
