One-game ban for Atlético’s Pablo Vercellone

Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper coach Pablo Vercellone will serve a one-match ban after being sent off in the seventh-round derby at the Metropolitano against Real Madrid, Mundo Deportivo reports.

The ruling comes after incidents in the Liga EA Sports clash. The RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee also told Real Madrid to “show extreme diligence” regarding kickoff and match timing: according to the match report, after the break the visitors delayed their return to the pitch by five minutes.

Dismissals in the derby

Mundo Deportivo says that Dean Huijsen was shown a red card in the 52nd minute for pulling back an opponent to prevent a clear goal-scoring chance. The action led to a penalty and Atlético’s 1-0 advantage, after VAR review (he had initially received a yellow for a grabbing incident).

Alongside Huijsen, the same committee punished Mourinho’s assistant Pedro Luis Ferreira and Vercellone with one-game suspensions. The referee report by Miguel Ángel Ortiz states they were expelled for confronting a rival coach in the tunnel at half-time, triggering a broader confrontation between players and staff.

Madrid also hit with a fine

As Mundo Deportivo adds, Diego Pablo Simeone was also booked for comments, gestures, or objections toward the match officials, receiving the yellow at the six-minute mark. Vercellone and the other suspended figures will miss the next match, with an additional fine included in the committee’s decision.
