Padilla and Djaló recalled for Mexico and Guinea-Bissau duty
Despite limited playing time for their club, Padilla and Djaló make their national team squads for the FIFA window.
The Athletic will have extra international representation in this FIFA window with two players who, even without minutes under Terzic, regain a spot for their respective national teams. As MARCA reports, Padilla is called up by Mexico, while Djaló joins the Guinea-Bissau squad for different matches.
Mexico: friendlies for Padilla
According to MARCA, the goalkeeper will be part of the start of Rafa Márquez’s tenure as Mexico’s coach. He has been selected for friendlies against:
- Colombia (September 26)
- Peru (September 29)
- United States (October 3)
- Chile (October 6)
The report also notes that the Zarautz-born player—eligible for Mexico through his mother, with double nationality—will not be available for Terzic for the Euskal Herria Kopa final that Athletic will play against Real Sociedad in Anoeta. With Simón and Padilla both unavailable, Athletic will have to rely on Santos, the third-choice goalkeeper, who on that Sunday has a match with Bilbao Athletic.
Guinea-Bissau call-up for Djaló
Djaló also returns to the Guinea-Bissau squad. MARCA says he had previously been considered in Spain pre-squads while playing for Braga, but chose Guinea-Bissau after accepting that call last season, when he was on loan at Al-Gharafa.
Even with only 9 minutes of competitive action this season, the outlet adds that it has been enough for coach Emiliano Té to include him. Guinea-Bissau will face:
- Tanzania (September 25)
- Nigeria (September 29).
